GIs of Comedy keep them laughing at Laughlin

LAUGHLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Texas – The 47th Force Support Squadron hosted the GIs of Comedy, a free comedy show, for the service members and their spouses on 27 January 2017. The GIs of Comedy are a world-renowned group of veterans who love to spread laughter to their fellow service members. Laughlin Air Force Base had the privilege of hosting three of the comedians, Thom Tran, Jose Sarduy, and Key Lewis during their tour around the United States.

This tour was especially meaningful to Laughlin as Sarduy is a member of the local Laughlin community. Sarduy is a pilot for the 96th Flying Training Squadron and also travels with the GIs of Comedy on their tours worldwide. He has always had a talent for comedy; even as a student pilot in Undergraduate Pilot Training at Laughlin, he showcased his skills on the base at Club XL for the enjoyment of his fellow military members. Now, with the GIs of Comedy, Sarduy combines his passion of flying with comedy, while also making a positive impact on the military community.

Over 200 people attended the event at Club XL. The minute that Thom Tran and his fellow comedians stepped on stage, the building was filled with laughter. There wasn’t a dry eye in the building as the comedians made everyone laugh until they cried, and then ended with a thoughtful appreciation of our military forces that brought tears of gratitude. Upon the conclusion of the show, the room was filled with positive feedback for the comedians and Club XL. One attendee was “…pleasantly surprised at the quality of the show, and was happy that they kept things pretty clean. It was awesome! Please have them come back next year.” With positive feedback in tow, Laughlin plans to keep the momentum moving forward and feature more live entertainment in the months to come.
