 NAF Insurance Benefits



 
Benefit programs provided to eligible Air Force NAF employees including group life, health insurance and flexible benefits plans.
 
 
HEALTH INSURANCE:  The DoD implemented the Health Benefits Program (HBP) on January 1, 2000.  It provides comprehensive benefits which include hospitalization, prescription drugs, medical, surgical, preventive, mental health, substance abuse, vision, and dental care.
 
STAND ALONE DENTAL:  The Stand Alone Dental Plan (SAD) is offered as an option for DoD NAF employees in regular positions but who are not participation in a NAF HBP medical plan.   There is no employer contribution to the stand-alone dental plan.  Retirees are not eligible to enroll in the stand-alone dental plan and there is no opportunity to continue this coverage at the time of retirement.  There is no provision for temporary continuation of coverage (TCC) for the stand-alone dental plan.

LIFE INSURANCE:  The Air Force NAF Group Life and Accidental Death & Dismemberment Plan is a commercially insured plan providing basic life and AD&D coverage for DoD Air Force NAF employees in a regular position.  Employees may enroll with family members in employee life coverage which is offered in high and low options.  

Upon an insured's death, the plan pays a benefit to the person's designated beneficiary.   If the employee dies as a result of an accident, an accidental death benefit is paid in addition to the regular death benefit.  In the case of dismemberment, the plan pays a benefit to the insured. 

FLEXIBLE BENEFITS PLAN:  The Air Force NAF employees enrolled in the DoD HBP or the Stand Alone Dental (SAD) Plan have the option to pay their group health/dental contribution with pre-tax dollars.

RETIREMENT PLAN: The Air Force NAF employees are eligible to participate in the retirement plan after 1 year of regular Air Force NAF service.

401(k): The Air Force NAF employees' 401(k) Savings Plan allows eligible employees to contribute a portion of their salaries to the plan.
