Joint Base Charleston celebrates Dr. Seuss’ birthday

The Joint Base Charleston Libraries observed the birthday of the famous American writer, Dr. Seuss, in March with two celebrations for military members and their families, dedicated to remembering the wonders of his work.

Story time at the library

JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON, Alaska -- The children's section of the library is normally a quiet atmosphere brimming with books and their imaginary tales of dreams, curiosity and mystery. The silence is broken when storytellers read a special tale to young children, teleporting their minds to a world of imagination.

The storytelling program is one of the many weekly events the Consolidated Library offers to children and parents on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska. One teller provides the gift of imagination through her words, telling children of the many different and unique stories the library supplies to its patrons. Tesha Mulkey, 673d Force Support Squadron library technician, didn't get there in one day.

Oh, the places you’ll go with power of reading

KEESLER AIR FORCE BASE, Miss. -  -- The Keesler Child Development Center celebrated Read Across America March 2-6.

Knocking out its 18th year, more than 45 million educators, parents and children of all ages in schools stateside and on military installations overseas participated in the week-long event by reading books and having different themes for each day in honor of Dr. Seuss.

Started on March 2, 1998, Read Across America is held every year on Ted Geisel's, better known as Dr. Seuss, birthday. This year the CDC celebrated in a way that brought reading to the forefront of their students' lives.

FSS flexes beddown muscles during ORE

OSAN AIR BASE, Republic of Korea -- At Osan Air Base, Republic of Korea, quarterly operational readiness exercises are intended to test, build, and hone an alert mentality in its Airmen. During the most recent exercise, Beverly Midnight 15-01, the base services and sustainment team in the Force Support Squadron had a very realistic test in receiving and sustaining follow-on forces.

Standardly, the men and women of the FSS fitness center and lodging teams are responsible for the upkeep of their facilities, making them inviting and available for personnel around the base. During an emergency, however, their roles change as they're also responsible for the beddown and sustainment of follow-on forces. When BM 15-01 was forthcoming in tandem with another peninsula-wide exercise, and it became apparent that the standard facilities wouldn't be enough, the FSS had to make room, elsewhere, in an unconventional venue.
